The answer came to me, when asking another question \u2013 How do we do safe theatre in an uncertain time? Radio plays.&nbsp;It\u2019s perfect! Six actors, socially distanced on stage, music stands, mics, scripts, and whole lot of sound effects.&nbsp; We could keep the audience distant and keep the actors distant, yet still create theatre.&nbsp; I called my theatre life partner, Erik, and asked him if he thought it was a good idea and if he thought he could write it.&nbsp; I brainstormed with my actual life partner, Kat, about show choices\u2026 Funnily enough, Christmas Carol was not the immediate thought, but once Kat said it out loud, I was hooked.&nbsp; I emailed David Adams, as the first choice for Scrooge \u2013 he was in.&nbsp; And I remembered, this is what theatre is about \u2013 excitement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\" eplus-wrapper\">This was back in June\/July 2020\u2026 When we really didn\u2019t know where the world was going. Especially, for me, where theatre was going. The biggest companies, Arts Club, Bard, TUTS, all shut down their summer shows. Theatre Depression was real\u2026 But yet, I was excited, I was interested, and I was energized. I knew it was the right choice, no matter what Covid could throw at us, I knew we could create safety, efficiently, and with enthusiasm for theatre once again. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\" eplus-wrapper\">\u201cYou are the light in these dark times that keeps us going. He\u2019s since had the good fortune to enjoy a varied career as actor, singer and director, across the country. Notable achievements include: National Tours of Phantom of the Opera, Show Boat &amp; Sunset Boulevard, 5 seasons at The Shaw Festival and an appearance on The X-Files!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\" eplus-wrapper\"><strong>Roger Monk \u2013 Narrator #2<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\" eplus-wrapper\">Roger is very fortunate to have spent his entire career in the performing arts. A Grammy award-winning recording engineer, he is best known for his big band and orchestral recordings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\" eplus-wrapper\">He owns and operates <em>Dick &amp; Roger\u2019s Sound Studio<\/em>, a professional audio post-production recording studio in Vancouver. As a character actor, he has appeared on many stages around the lower mainland including The Royal Canadian Theatre Company, Side Kick Players, Vagabond Players, and Metro Theatre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\" eplus-wrapper\"><strong>Jill Raymond \u2013 Narrator #3<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\" eplus-wrapper\">Jill Raymond is a multi-award-winning international creator and actor. She is also Founder\/Artistic Director of Direct Theatre Collective. Directing credits include Company with Raincity Theatre, Sweeney Todd with Snapshots Collective, Seussical and The Addams Family with Kay Meek, Rock of Ages with Renegade, 13 with BOTCo, and, of course, last year\u2019s panto; Alice In Wonderland<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\" eplus-wrapper\"><strong>Erik Gow \u2013 Playwright<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\" eplus-wrapper\">Erik Gow is a Vancouver based Jessie nominated Actor, Composer, Playwright, and Educator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\" eplus-wrapper\">When not performing, Erik holds regular teaching positions with Bard on the Beach, The Shadbolt Arts Centre, Arts Club Theatre, Arts Umbrella, Gateway Theatre, and the University of British Columbia. He is also available for masterclasses and workshops in acting, voice, music, and physical theatre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\" eplus-wrapper\">Erik has composed several TYA shows for the Beach House Theatre, two original musicals for Studio 58, and last year wrote Metro Theatre\u2019s Christmas Pantomime. Currently Erik is a resident artist with the Arts Club Emerging Playwright Unit, and is co-composing music for \u201cCry Heart, But Never Break\u201d with Axis Theatre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\" eplus-wrapper\"><strong>Tracy-Lynn Chernaske \u2013 Set Designer<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\" eplus-wrapper\">A freelance Scenic Artist, Tracy-Lynn has been the resident Scenic Painter\/Set Decorator at Metro Theatre for over 10 years. In addition to working for theatre groups all over the lower mainland, she also works as a fine art painter and is back at school to become an Expressive Arts Therapist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\" eplus-wrapper\"><strong>Joscelyne Tamburri \u2013 Costume Designer\/Rehearsal ASM<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\" eplus-wrapper\">Joscelyne Tamburriis very excited to be back at the Metro this Christmas season, but this time as the costume designer and rehearsal ASM for their first-ever live radio play, Christmas Carol. You may recognize her from her performance as Tweedle Dummer in last year\u2019s \u201cAlice in Wonderland: The Pantomime\u201d or from other shows around Vancouver, such as \u201cRock of Ages\u201d (Renegade), \u201c42nd Street\u201d, \u201cMary Poppins\u201d (TUTS), or as a main cast member at <em>The Giggle Dam<\/em>. She is very grateful to Chris Adams and Metro Theatre for giving her this opportunity to step offstage out of the stage lights, and into her role as the costume designer, and to Kat Palmer for being a wonderful SM as usual.
