SHOW SYNOPSES:

Farce/Comedy/1930s
October 3 – October 25, 2025
Ken Ludwig’s
Lend Me a Tenor
Written by Ken Ludwig
MAGGIE: It was even better than I thought it would be. I guess that’s because you’re Italian.
When a world-famous opera star passes out before the biggest night in Cleveland opera history, his hapless assistant must step in-literally. What follows is a whirlwind of mistaken identities, slamming doors, and not one but two Otellos tearing through a hotel suite. Ken Ludwig’s Lend Me a Tenor is a fast-paced farce of love, lies, and high notes gone wildly wrong.

Comedy/Austen/Romance
November 7 – November 29, 2025
Miss Bennett:
Christmas at Pemberley
By Lauren Gunderson & Margot Melcon
MARY: It often seems the world would be a better place were we all to say what we mean.
In this witty and wise sequel to Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, playwrights Lauren Gunderson and Margot Melcon put a spotlight on the forgotten Bennet sister, Mary. As they gather for a family Christmas reunion Mary meets potential suitor Arthur de Bourgh, and sparks fly over a shared love of science. One problem: he’s promised to another. Will she take a leap and admit her love, or stay hidden away with her books and piano practice? With touches of comedy and heartache, this literate Christmas romance is the perfect start to the season of goodwill.

Pantomime/Comedy/Musical
December 12, 2025 – January 4, 2026
Jack and the Beanstalk
A Traditional British Pantomime
Written by Shel Piercy and Jo Sears
Celebrating 40 Years of Panto at Metro Theatre!
From the team behind last year’s Ovation Award–winning Cinderella! comes Jack and the Beanstalk, Metro’s 40th Holiday Pantomime! A night at the panto might just be the most fun you’ll have at the theatre all year. If you’ve bean-stalking Metro for a while, you know our panto is our silliest-and most beloved-tradition. Boo the villain, cheer the heroes, and laugh ’til the cows come home! That’s RIGHT! There is a cow! And the result is udder nonsense! Follow our hero, fear the giant, love our dancing cow PLUS a talking goose, amazing sets, incredible costumes, terrible jokes and the audience-favourite “The 12 Days of Christmas” it is the perfect side dish for your season of joy! Does any of it make sense? How rude! Who needs sense when your goose can lay a golden egg? Make sure to secure your tickets early as the best seats sell quickly!

Comedy/1960s/Romance
January 23 – February 14, 2026
Neil Simon’s
Barefoot in the Park
By Neil Simon
CORIE BRATTER: You know what you are, Paul? You’re a watcher. You’re a watcher. There are watchers in this world and there are doers. And the watchers sit around watching the doers do. Well tonight you watched, and I did.
PAUL BRATTER: Yeah well, it was a little bit harder to watch what you did than for you to do what I was watching.
They say half of all marriages end in divorce– 10% within the first year. But what about one week? Meet the Bratters: Corie, a free spirit, and Paul, a buttoned-up lawyer. They’ve just moved into a cramped fifth-floor walk-up, and already they’re wondering if opposites really do attract. In Neil Simon’s classic romantic comedy, the newlyweds face eccentric neighbours, a disapproving mother-in-law, and their own clashing personalities. Will it all blow up in their faces, or will they learn that love sometimes means walking barefoot-in the snow?

Musical/Comedy/Nuns
February 27 – March 21, 2026
Nunsense
Book, Music and Lyrics by Dan Goggin
SISTER ROBERT ANNE: I want to be the nun who makes you cheer / The nun who’s out in front / Instead of in the rear.
The world’s most successful musical based on a greeting card returns to Metro Theatre! Join the Little Sisters of Hoboken – the survivors at least – as they put on a madcap variety show to raise emergency funds for the convent. For what, you ask? You wouldn’t believe us if we told you. Expect a former circus performer, tainted vichyssoise, fowl-mouthed puppets, amnesia, and, of course, tap-dancing nuns. Overflowing with laughs, Nunsense is pure joy, and we’re thrilled to welcome it back to the Metro stage.

Comedy/Elizabethean/Romance/Adventure
April 3 – April 25, 2026
Shakespeare in Love
The Play
Based on the screenplay by Marc Norman and Tom Stoppard
Adapted for the stage by Lee Hall
VIOLA DE LESSEPS: I will have poetry in my life. And adventure. And love. Love above all.
Young Will Shakespeare is in a rut. He’s plagued by writer’s block and a pile of debts, and his latest play-Romeo and Ethel, the Pirate’s Daughter-is going nowhere fast. But when he meets Viola de Lesseps, a noblewoman with a passion for the theatre, inspiration strikes. Viola disguises herself as a man to perform onstage, sparking a passionate love affair and a breakthrough for Shakespeare’s work.
Shakespeare in Love is a witty, fast-paced celebration of romance, mischief, and the magic of live theatre. Plus a bit with a dog!

Legally Blonde
The Musical
Music & Lyrics by Laurence O’Keefe and Nell Benjamin, Book by Heather Hach, Based on the Novel by Amanda Brown

When sorority president Elle Woods is dumped on the eve of her college graduation, she does the most logical thing – follow her ex to Harvard Law School, chihuahua by her side. Once at Harvard, she must decide whether to change herself and fit in, or stand out and see if she can change those around her. Based on the hit film, this feel-good musical follows Elle’s journey to prove that you can’t judge a book by its cover-and that what makes you different might just be your superpower.
