Now Playing….

– a comedy written by Eric Chappell and directed by Alison Schamberger  on our stage  until March 9, 2019.

In this riotous bedroom farce a potential Prime Ministerial candidate, Philip Conway, is attending a conference at a Brighton hotel with an eye to becoming the party leader but his campaign is in serious danger of collapse.

Pip is  married, with a weak spot for women.  Visits from rivals, fellow conspirators and a scantily clad actress in his room, coincide rather unfortunately with a hotel lobby full of press and streets full of protesters.   Such dalliances go against the grain for a man with political ambition and Pip soon finds himself on the verge of a full-blown sex scandal.

He seems to be within easy reach of the top job as the current PM is in failing health, but every time he turns around, something else seems to make this increasingly improbable.  Improbability is, after all a key element in farce!

Being Said: about UP and COMING by our Patrons:
“Enjoyed the play immensely – absolutely wonderful” – LC
“Really enjoyed it. It’s a British political comedy. The actors are very good and well cast; it’s fast-paced, with dry British wit. The dialogue is tight and the pacing excellent. A fun night topped off with drinks in the funky lounge upstairs.” – CM
“Lots of fun comic performances in this Brit-style farce!” – JL

During the run of PERSUASION, Metro Theatre is hosting a Sealed Silent Auction for a custom created abstract painting by painter Tracy-Lynn Chernaske. To kick off bidding Metro will be hosting a Facebook Live event on the afternoon of March 4th where patrons will be able to tune in and see the artist at work as she adds layers to the under painting that is in it’s beginning stages. Valued at $600 the painting is created with Metro’s upcoming show “Persuasion” by Jane Austen as inspiration. By tying together appropriate colours and soft textures the painting will reflect suggestions of Austin’s historical multi-location story line full of ships, seaside beaches, grand old manors and tidy cottages.

The production of Persuasion visits over 10 different locals. With such a challenge facing the production team, seasoned Set Designer John R Taylor has set the bar with a representational set to allow the actors to travel from scene to scene flawlessly. Director Joan Bryans has mentioned the flow of the show moves along quite quickly and likens it to scenes in a movie. She plans to work closely with the Lighting and Sound Designers to reinforce the feelings of each local.

Following this lead Tracy-Lynn plans to convey suggestions of natural elements and compliment them with splashes of historical colours. The ABSTRACT PAINTING will be made similarly to Tracy-Lynn’s paintings that were released during Metro’s inaugural art show – Reclaiming, Reworking & Revisiting; completely of recycled materials from past productions here at Metro Theatre. Painting techniques such as pouring, washing, stippling, spraying, splattering, pallet knifing and heat treatments will be used with regular latex house paints, scenic paints, un-usable wood and other left-over materials as possibilities such as glitters, metallics, sawdust and glues.

The painting will be available for bidding until April 18th 2019 with the winner announced on Closing night of Persuasion on April 20th.  Donations are a part of Metro’s life blood and this auction is a way to reach out and thank our patrons for their continuous contributions. The majority of funds collected through the winning bid will go directly to Metro to help with building up-keep; a small portion will go to the artist. Bidding will be available through our website, Facebook page as well as in person during regular box office hours and performances.

The size of the painting is 36″ x 22.75″ on doorskin wood.

More info and video of the work in process will be posted on this website under the PERSUASION banner.
