Avenue Q

Sept 18 – Oct 10

ABOUT THE SHOW

Avenue Q is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI). All authorized performance materials are also supplied by MTI.

A delightfully irreverent smash hit, Avenue Q is the Tony Award–winning musical that tells the story of Princeton, a bright-eyed college grad who moves to a rundown New York apartment on Avenue Q.  There, he meets an eclectic group of neighbours—humans and puppets alike—who are all trying to figure out life, love, and their purpose in the real world.  With a sharp, witty score and a fearless sense of humour, Avenue Q tackles big issues with heart and hilarity.  Equal parts outrageous and endearing, this adult-oriented musical is as thought-provoking as it is laugh-out-loud funny.

Directed by Chris King, this production promises to be a fresh, energetic look at this hilarious musical!

Please note: This production contains strong language, mature themes, and explicit humour.  It is intended for adult audiences.

While in Vancouver, Leah has worked in many commercials, did her first Hallmark movie (A Make or Break Holiday) and voiced Jigglypuff for Pokémon (Pokétoons.) He has also co-founded two theatre companies, Mixing Bowl Productions and Shot in the Dark Productions, is in a jazz/pop music duo called Tea For Two, and works as a vocal coach. Being a bit of jack-of-all-trades, he has created experimental musical theatre pieces, starred in a Lactaid commercial, tour-guided around BC, cat-sit thrice, and crafted an absurdist Michael Bublé tribute show that he has never publicly performed. Richard would like to thank his school friend, Doug, for introducing him to Avenue Q at far too early an age. He would also like to dedicate his performance to his mom, dad, and brother back home who continue to simultaneously lift up and anchor him.

PRODUCER - Jo Sears

PRODUCER - Jo Sears

What do you do with a MA in Latin American Studies? Well after a few brushes with some Bad Idea Bears of her own, Jo has discovered that whilst her education was mostly irrelevant, Metro has taught her (just like the residents of Avenue Q) an appreciation for the importance of community and friendships – while still being able to laugh if things don’t quite go to plan (especially when helping produce musical theatre!). She is thrilled and grateful to be working on this truly outrageous show with some of the best in the city – an exceptional production team, multi-talented cast and dedicated crew. For those – like Princeton – who are striving to find their purpose, remember it’s apparently the journey not the destination that matters, so keep on keeping on! While AQ is keeping Jo busy – for now – up next is Metro’s Traditional British Pantomime: Sleeping Beauty, which will definitely be suitable for children.
