      COMEDY OF TENORS

    It’s 1937 in a Paris hotel suite; four tenors, two wives, three girlfriends, and a soccer stadium filled with exuberant fans. What could possibly go wrong? Producer Harry Saunders has to try and keep his star tenor, Tito Morelli, and his hot-headed wife Maria from causing chaos. Prepare for an uproarious ride full of mistaken identities and hijinks of operatic proportions!

    CARLO NUCCI – (30ish) – Mimi’s boyfriend. Tenor. The opera world’s rising star, and Mimi’s boyfriend. American accent.

    Actors auditioning for CARLO will need to sing the first verse and chorus of La Traviata: Brindisi acapella

    Rehearsal period: late July through until opening night

    Thursday to Saturday, October 03 to October 19, 2019

    Sunday matinees are October 06 and October 13

    Requirements: Auditions will be cold readings from the script; the director will choose which scenes the group will read. Sides available upon request.

    Notes: This is a NON-EQUITY production. All roles at Metro Theatre, are Volunteer positions. People will be seen on a first come/first served basis, but be prepared that you may have to sit around and wait as you may be needed to read opposite someone else who is auditioning.

AUDITIONS

Synopsis: It’s 1937 in a Paris hotel suite, four tenors, two wives, three girlfriends and a soccer stadium filled with exuberant fans.  What could possibly go wrong?  Producer Harry Saunders has to try and keep his star tenor, Tito Merelli and his hot-headed wife Maria from causing chaos. Prepare for an uproarious ride, full of mistaken identities, bedroom hijinks, and madcap delight.

Characters Needed: 3-female; 5-male

HENRY SAUNDERS (45-55) – Concert Producer. Former mayor of Cleveland. Stressed with a temper as he tries to produce a concert that’s falling apart. American accent.

MAX (30s) – Saunders’ former assistant, now a working tenor in Henry’s concert. Nervous as his wife (who is Henry’s daughter) is expecting their first child. American accent.

MARIA MERELLI (45-55) – Tito’s long-suffering wife. Hot headed but loving. Understands that her daughter needs to have a life. Italian accent.

TITO MERELLI / BEPPO (50-60) – Dual role. Tito is the world’s premiere tenor, a hot headed Italian who feels threatened and forgotten as the opera world embraces a new young star. Beppo is a hotel bellhop who is the spitting image (and voice) of Tito. Italian accent.

MIMI MERELLI (25) – the Merellis’ daughter. An aspiring actress who went to boarding school in the States. American accent.

CARLO NUCCI (30ish) – Mimi’s boyfriend. Tenor. The opera world’s rising star, and Mimi’s boyfriend. American accent.

TATIANA RACÓN (40-50) – famous soprano. Sexy and sophisticated, having everything in her life but love. Russian accent.

JACQUES (30+) – Concert announcer (voiceover only). French accent.

Callbacks: Thursday, June 20 at 7:00PM

Rehearsal period: late July through until opening night

Requirements: All actors auditioning for tenor roles will need to sing the first verse and chorus of La Traviata: Brindisi acapella.

No appointment required. Auditions will be cold readings from the script; the director will choose which scenes the group will read. You can download the SIDES from the right hand column of this web page. Actors are encouraged to read the script on their own prior to auditioning.

AUDITION GUIDELINES

• You can SUBMIT your interest using the shows contact form OR PRINT out the Fillable Audition Form and bring it and your headshot with you to the audition.

• Auditions will be cold readings from the script; the director will choose which scenes the group will read. Drop in, no appointment necessary. Open to all ethnicities.

• Auditions are for NON-EQUITY productions. All roles at Metro Theatre, are Volunteer positions. People will be seen on a first come/first served basis, but be prepared that you may have to wait after being seen as you may be needed to read opposite someone else who is auditioning.

• If you are cast, you will be required to become a Member of Metro Theatre and your 12-month Membership Fee of $20 will be collected at the first read-through.

• It is expected that actors must be capable of playing the age specified, be capable of speaking with expected accents, be able to utilize musical and dancing skills, when the part requires those skills.

• While experience is preferable it is not essential.
