(March 15, 2016) A sci-fi comedy, by Alan Ayckbourn, Comic Potential is a play set in the foreseeable future, when everything has changed – except human nature.

Metro Theatre is proud to present Comic Potential on stage March 26 to April 16.

prcomicpotentialHeaven forbid the day should come when actors are replaced by electronic “actoids” as Alan Ayckbourn wickedly fantasized in Comic Potential.

The play imagines a world in which soap operas are performed by robots in a low-budget TV soap opera and one, Jacie, appears to be able to act without programming.  Taught by a scotch-drinking, down on his luck director and a young impressionable screenwriter, Jacie appears to have comic potential.  The owner of the TV station and a hard-nosed producer view Jacie’s “potential” as a malfunction, so the young screenwriter, now smitten with his android star, decides to go on the run with her. This introduces Jacie to a variety of situations in the real world with surprising and hilarious results.

Director Sarah Arnold: Essentially Comic Potential is a variation on the Cinderella story; instead of going to the ball, Jacie gets to see what it’s like to be a real live girl. Adam, is her Prince Charming, and the evil stepmom is personified by Carla, the studio producer who threatens to have Jacie melted down when she starts causing trouble.

COMIC POTENTIAL is directed Sarah Arnold , produced by Emma Greenhalgh, stage managed by Allie Kendall and features:Gavi Beigel (CHANDLER),  Karin Atkinson (JACIE), Casey Por (ADAM),  and Yvonne Gustafson (CARLA).
