Family fun with pantomime JACK AND THE BEANSTALK – Dec 13 to Jan 4

Fee Fi Fo Fum- It’s time for panto fun!

Metro Theatre has a tradition of presenting a pantomime every year around Christmastime. Pantomimes are a British family-friendly tradition – they combine a fairy-tale story with silly song and dance numbers, as well as zany characters that interact with the audience. They’re a great introduction for children of all ages to the magic of theatre, and Metro’s been putting them on for nearly 30 years!

This year’s pantomime is the beloved story of a young lad named Jack – poor, but honest – with a delightful (if comical) mother named Dame Trott (Trotty to her friends). Their only possession of any worth is their cow Daisy. But they are in such strained circumstances they are forced to sell her! Oh, no!

Of course, as with all good pantos, there are the forces of good (i.e., the Good Fairy) and evil (i.e., Demon Distastely – this year with a small henchman, a mini-Demon in training). Rounding out the story, there’s a beautiful princess who must be rescued (Princess Melody), her father the King, and hilarious palace guards (Harem and Scarum).

And, what’s a beanstalk story without a giant? Yup, we’ve got one – the GIANT Giant Eyesore who constantly terrorizes the village. Someone has to save them by climbing the beanstalk to his castle in the clouds. But who could that be? Come and find out!

Jack and the Beanstalk stars Trent Glukler as Demon Distastely and Roger Kettyls as Dame Trott. And under Johnny Duncan’s direction, Dawn Ewen has returned as choreographer, as has David Rogers as musical director.

The show runs December 13 through January 4 as follows:

Evenings at 7pm on Dec. 13, 14, 19, 20, 21, 26, 27, 28, and Jan. 2, 3 and 4

Matinees at 2pm on Dec. 14, 21, 22, 26, 28, 29 and Jan. 1 and 4

Our pantomimes are fun for the entire family – kids have a blast interacting with the story unfolding on stage, and adults laugh their way through the pop-culture references. In past years, we’ve been known to sell out, so get your tickets now! And check out our Facebook event to invite your friends!
