Based on the movie of the same name, this humorous and at times poignant play tells the story of a group of women, all members of the Knapely (Yorkshire) Women’s Institute who band together on an unusual fund-raising project.
10 female 4 male (some doubling)
Chris (50s)-the live wire with tendencies to be outrageous
Annie (50s)-her bosom buddy, more conformist
Cora (40s)-has had more life experience than the others-must have a strong enough singing voice to lead the singing and if possible be able to play the piano
Jessie (late 60s/70s) – retired teacher, doesn’t put up with any nonsense
Celia (35-50) – wealthy and more materialistic than the other women
Ruth (40s) – at first downtrodden but is transformed throughout the play
Marie (40s) –The WI is her entire life
John (50s)-Annie’s husband-strong and warm
Rod (50s )- Chris’s husband -hard-working and loyal
Lawrence (late 20s)- Shy young photographer
Lady Cravenshire (60s)- upper class snob
Brenda Hulse (60s)-tedious woman who gives talk on broccoli
Elaine-(20s)-young make-up artist
Liam (20-30) director of the photoshoot
Requirements: Auditions will be cold readings from the script; the director will choose which scenes the group will read. No appointment necessary.
English accents required
This is a NON-EQUITY production. All roles at Metro Theatre, are Volunteer positions. People will be seen on a first come/first served basis, but be prepared that you may have to sit around and wait as you may be needed to read opposite someone else who is auditioning.

Private bookings may occur on Mondays, Tuesdays or Wednesdays, for each performance week, with no more than one private booking per week. Please keep these days free to perform.
REHEARSALS begin September 2017 and continue until Opening Night. If you are cast, you will be required to become a Member of Metro Theatre and your 12-month Membership Fee of $20 will be collected at the first read-through.
